Tips for Good Reviews
After treatment, including surgery, failed to get the condition under control I went with Danazol. It was surprisingly effective in that it cut back the symptoms, pain, and (hopefully) the cause. I became pregnant while taking the drug which was a miracle on its own as all of the doctors were saying I was becoming infertile. I stopped taking it within a few weeks of conception, but I ignored the black box warning indicating that any pregnancies on the drug needed to be terminated. My resulting daughter's hormones are not balanced (they are more towards the male side resulting in some additional aggression and a few minor issues over the years) and she has learning difficulties, which are not traits my other children share. Danazol can be a wonderful drug, and it allowed my condition to be alleviated enough to conceive and gave me a wonderful daughter (despite the issues), but I would not recommend it to anyone that might become pregnant. The warning is on the label for a reason.
I was part of a drug-trial study published in one of the Medical journals (JAMA, I think) in 1970. I don't remember any side effects except the blessed, BLESSED relief from pain. I had been unable to sit, stand or lie down comfortably and 5 different doctors had not found the problem (Oh, my, Mrs........, it's all in your head). Finally, my mother's Gynecologist did surgery, and found this study. I took the medicine for 6 - 9 months (almost 40 years ago, I don't recall the length of time), my periods disappeared during the treatment, then returned afterwards. I was pain-free for 20 years. (developed fibroids later - unrelated). I felt so lucky.
