How To Organize Your Purse- Handbag Organization

How to Pack Your Purse

Forget diamonds, a purse is a girl's best friend. A purse goes with you everywhere. Whether it's a cute and compact clutch or a chic shoulder tote, you'll need it to carry all of the things that will get you through the day in style.

Steps

  1. Pack your wallet.Choose a wallet that has enough pockets for your bank card, credit cards, etc. Make sure the wallet also fits into your purse. Also, keep an identification in your wallet in case the wallet is lost or stolen.
  2. Pack any makeup that you use daily for quick fixes. Also pack a mirror, hair bands, bobby pins, small hairbrush or comb, and a nail file.
  3. Have tampons or sanitary pads in your purse. You don't want to be surprised and unprepared, and you may need to lend supplies to someone else. Some emergency Advil, Tylenol or other Ibuprofen type medication can be useful, too.
  4. Pack your cell phone, and a charger if needed. You can also purchase extra batteries and keep them charged so they can be switched throughout the day.
  5. Have your keys with you, even if you don't think you will use them. It's better to have them and not use them than to be locked out of the house or having to call for help.
  6. Have a pen and a notepad, these are very helpful. You may need to write down a phone number, a schedule change, or an important reminder.
  7. Be sure to pack tissues.A runny nose can be a pain (not to mention embarrassing!) And you may visit a poorly equipped public facility.
  8. Have an emergency cash.A bill and several quarters (or the equivalent in your local currency) in case you forget money or are short of change.
  9. Remember first-aid.Even if you think it's unnecessary, you never know when you'll need a band-aid or a small tube of anti-bacterial ointment.
  10. Pack musical entertainment. In case you get bored or have nothing to do have a music player of some sort so you can listen or sing along to music anytime anywhere.
  11. If you're a DIY (Do It Yourself) sort of person, have in your purse a needle and thread. This way, you can temporarily fix a ripped shirt or shorts.
  12. Keep track for a week or two of everything that you feel you need.Make a list of it, and be sure to put these items in your purse, along with some emergency items as well.

  • Question
Should I bring lip balm or lotion?
    wikiHow Contributor
    Community Answer
You should bring both if you have enough space.
    Thanks!
  • Question
Do I need lip balm or cream?
    wikiHow Contributor
    Community Answer
You don't absolutely need it, but you never know when your lips might get chapped, so it's a good idea to have some on hand.
    Thanks!
  • Question
Why do I need needles in my bag?
    wikiHow Contributor
    Community Answer
You don't necessarily need to have needles. This is in case you rip your clothes and want to patch it up immediately. However, if you aren't a "DIY" person, you don't need to have needles and thread with you.
    Thanks!
  • Question
Where can I get stuff for my purse?
    wikiHow Contributor
    Community Answer
You can buy makeup and travel-sized products at most supermarkets or drug stores.
    Thanks!
  • Question
Why does everyone need ten dollars? Wouldn't a British person be more likely to need 10 pounds or someone in Europe need 10 euros?
    wikiHow Contributor
    Community Answer
Obviously yes, but this is a US-based website, so we generally go with American units by default, and it would be silly to list out every single possible currency in the article. If you're from another country, you can infer for yourself what the equivalent would be in your country.
    Thanks!
  • Question
In what size should the purse be?
    wikiHow Contributor
    Community Answer
It depends on your items. If you have many large ones, like notebooks, opt for one that is A4 paper size. But if you need only minimal things, you can use a satchel or a bag that is A5 size. Find one with pockets if you lose things in your bag.
    Thanks!

  • Small mirrors are extremely useful items in a makeup kit.
  • Packing headphones can help if you are bored and need to listen to music on your iPod, whether you are on your way home from work, bus rides, or even grocery shopping!
  • Take advantage of the side pockets in your purse. They will help to keep everything organized.
  • Don't forget to clean out your purse at least once a week , even once or twice a month is fine.
  • Makeup bags are handy to keep things organized in your purse. You can use them for makeup, of course, and for concealing personal items or for things you will remove from or put into your bag throughout the day (ex: going from school to work, work to the gym, etc.)
  • If you need to pack lighter, you can purchase travel sized lotions, deodorant, etc. to save space.
  • If you wear nylons or tights a lot, you should keep some clear nail polish handy in case you get a run in them. This way the run will not spread into a larger hole.
  • Having Ziploc bags is very handy, whether it's keeping messy items from wrecking your bag or taking home a leftover sandwich from lunch.
  • Pack some extra clothes in case your outfit currently gets ruined or soiled. You can bring tights, underwear, bra, and a tank top if you have a large purse.
  • Always have a small package of Kleenex with you. Also, your sunglasses and some mints/gum!
  • Make sure you have everything in your bag before you go out.
  • Have at least 1or 2 chap stick's along so in case you have dry lips, you could put it on wherever you want.
  • Put in a mini bottle of acne cream and a snack.

Warnings

  • Often a thief will only take a wallet from a purse. In case this happens, be sure to keep an extra 10 or 20 dollars and a form of ID somewhere in your purse other than your wallet. Also, don't keep any important receipts or paperwork in your wallet that cannot be replaced.
  • If you want to pack perfume, it is a good idea to buy the lotion that comes with the set to put in your purse. This way you won't break the bottle and lose all of your perfume.
